Estepona
Estepona the Costa del SolEstepona is one of the few coastal towns on the Costa del Sol that has succeeded in retaining its "pueblo" charm and character, despite the increase in tourism. The numerous street cafes and tapas bars continue serving traditional Spanish delicacies and the steep, often cobbled, narrow streets in the old town (casco antiguo) appear more suited to donkeys and horses rather than cars. Picturesque squares and corners abound both in the old town as well as in the more modern districts.

Estepona has two weekly markets (Wednesdays at the Recinto Ferial, and Sundays in the port. In addition there are many annual festivals and fairs, many of which have amazing street processions. However all the tourist facilities exist including hotels, restaurants, leisure and cultural activities, as well as shops. The atmosphere in the town is extremely friendly and inviting and the shop and bar owners will always find time to spend a few minutes talking to tourists as well as locals.
Estepona is renowned for its beaches, which stretch along some 21 km of coastline and includes two Blue Flag beaches. It is a popular all year round resort and holiday destination with a modern and small, but lively port and marina area.

Estepona is surrounded by the sea and the Sierra Bermeja mountain range, and consequently has its own micro climate with over 325 days of sunshine per year. The Sierra Bermeja is quite possibly one of the most underrated attractions on the Costa del Sol which with a summit of 1485 metres providing a dramatic backdrop to the whole town. The red soil and limestone of the Sierra Bermeja reflect the sun at different times of the day and of the year in continually surprising ways giving the appearance of ever changing colours. Close to the summit is a refugio with a small café / retaurant serving home cooked food and with a terrace providing a panoramic view of the whole coastline as well as the Atlas Mountains of North Africa. There are not many places in the world where one can see three countries in two continents !
